A: Hiring an unlicensed investigator can cause you to lose in the event that the case goes to court. Under cross examination any attorney worth their retainer will ask the "expert witness" questions related to their licensure status, experience, etc. When this occurs and it is discovered that the "investigator" is unlicensed, the judge must exclude the testimony because Kentucky law specifically states that unlicensed practice is a crime (misdemeanor on the first offense, a felony on the second or subsequent).
